I saw this today at The Corner on National Review Online. It's a must see.

OK, I'm the most fiscal conservative; to the right of Atila the Hun. But for the life of me: I can't imagine living in a society without Universal health Care. If people aren't healthy they can't contribute to increasing the wealth of the Nation.

In the end: the total health care bill will be less.

Just my opinion from Canada.

The debate here has nothing to do with healthy citizens. Currently today in this country, NO ONE can be turned away from a hospital if they need care regardless of insurance. The alleged debate is about what some call 49 million uninsured here versus what most experts believe to be around 19 million people (out of 304 million).

One of the real issues is that our "take care of everyone" policy is being battered by two things. One is illegal immigration. Hospitals on southern border states are bleeding money taking care of Mexico's citizens. The second is torts-the cost of administering healthcare in this country is way too high becasue doctors are forced to do excessing testing for cya purposes. Interestingly enough, neither of these two issues will even be discussed as part of "universal healthcare".

So what is left is just a union driven government buyout of the healthcare in this country.

By the way, if healthcare in Canada is so good, why was it that when I was in that accident in Ottawa after I was with you the border cops suggested I would be much more satisfied if I got treated at home?
