Sarah Palin on Flyers Coatesy's Corner!
Sarah Palin was in Philadelphia tonight to help the Flyers name the local winner of the area "Hockey Mom". It was very interesting to see how the team handled the situation. First off, they didn't allow anyone to disrupt the show. They played very loud music to ensure that the "Hockey Mom" took center stage rather than politics. No matter what your politics, if you are a hockey fan (am I am in the big way), the fact that Sarah Palin mentioned it in her convention speech and showed up tonight was a big deal.
At the first intermission, Steve Coates interviewed Sarah Palin. She talked about her son Track suggesting that she tone down the enthusiasm and I frankly believe it. All in all it was good news about hockey.
And for the freaks in the audience either left or right. If you had a problem with this or you went to the game to disrupt this hockey specific tribute-you are a moron. Grow up. Sarah Palin is a great ambassador for hockey. And she will continue to be. But those of you who hate her have probably never even seen a hockey game. You are probably much more into your own world than into what she has already done for the game. Politics aside.

You make some great points. Most people associate the name Palin with the NHL and pride in hockey. I would guess that the vast majority of people are more familiar with her many speeches on the future of the NHL and how to develop hockey than her speeches decrying "those who pal around with terrorists". The fact that the Fliers are already losing badly after only one period is a testament to Palin's selfless support of the Philadephia community.
CW
Lighten up. Everything is not about Obama. And if you were a real fan, you would understand that when referring to our local team, it is the Flyers, not the Fliers. And how does the Flyers game score (which is now 4-3) have anything to do with what I blogged?
Oh, and CW?
I suspect that Sarah Palin probanly is more than a little bit rooting for two of her local folks rom Alaska (which don't play for the Flyers). Do some research. See if you can figure out who they are. Oh wait, that doesn't fit into your cynical bs.
This troll isn't just a blowhard buzz-killer with an impaired sense of humor and a swollen partisanship gland. He seems to have also missed the fact that most Americans do associate Palin with hockey.
I don't watch much hockey, but that overplayed "lipstick" comment and the "hockey-mom-joe-sixpack" mantra has been repeated so often that I'd have to be living in Osama Bin Laden's cave not to associate her with hockey.
And based on that, can I doubt that she wants the NHL to have a bright future? Sure, she's more focused on making sure that a socialist doesn't make it to the White House, but I actually kinda like that about her.
On his third point -- that Palin's support for hockey should somehow have a effect on a given team -- I can only guess that he expects political leaders to wave a magic wand to make all of our dreams come true. That seems to be what Obama supporters expect.
